Sleep 101

Sleep is one of my favourite forms of medicine, it is something I prioritise for myself and my family. 

Anyone who has been sleep deprived understands how difficult it is to focus mentally, how difficult physical tasks are to complete and how easy it becomes to make less than desirable food choices. 

Emotionally I am a train wreck when I am exhausted, everything is so much harder when you are not sleeping well!  Her are my top 10 tips for encouraging sound, restorative sleep:

1. Expose your eyes to natural light first thing every morning.

2. Move throughout the day and be sure to practice earthing at least once a day.

3. No coffee after midday.

4. Magnesium supplementation and or topical application before bed, an Epsom salts bath is also fabulous if time allows.

5. Diffuse some lavender oil.

6. Drink a calming herbal tea, a chamomile blend works well for me.

7. Avoid screens prior to bed instead opt for reading a real book, if you must use screens wear blue light glasses. 

8. Drop into Child's pose and take 10 deep breaths before bed.

9. In bed lights out by 10pm.
